What Is All-on-4® / All-on-6?
Both approaches solve the same problem: replacing an entire arch of teeth, using a small number of strategically placed implants instead of one implant per missing tooth.
All-on-4® uses four implants per arch, angled to make the most of the bone you have, even if you’ve lost some density over the years. It’s often the go-to option for patients who want a full-arch solution without a bone graft.
All-on-6 uses six implants per arch for added support. It’s typically recommended when there’s enough healthy bone to work with, or when a patient wants extra stability for the long haul, particularly on the lower jaw, where bite forces are stronger.
Neither one is “better” across the board. The right choice comes down to your bone volume, your bite, and what you want out of the results, which is exactly what your consultation and imaging are for.
Why Patients Choose Full Arch Restoration Over Traditional Dentures
Removable dentures were the standard for decades because there wasn’t a better option. Now there is, and the difference shows up in ways patients notice immediately:
- No Slipping, No Adhesive: The prosthetic is fixed to implants, not resting on your gums.
- Improved Chewing Function: Once healing is complete, many patients can enjoy a wider range of foods than they could comfortably manage with removable dentures.
- Your Jawbone Stays Healthy: Missing teeth cause the jawbone to shrink over time. Implants stimulate the bone the way natural tooth roots do, which helps preserve your facial structure.
- It Looks Like Your Teeth, Not a Denture: The final restoration is custom-shaded and shaped to fit your face, not a generic set of prosthetic teeth.
You won’t spend the healing period with gaps in your smile; a temporary, fixed set of teeth is placed the same day as surgery.
Ideal Candidates for Full Arch Restoration
You might be a good fit for full arch restoration if:
- You’re missing most or all of the teeth in an arch, or your remaining teeth have extensive damage or poor prognosis due to decay, gum disease, trauma, or other dental conditions
- You currently wear a full or partial denture that doesn’t fit well or that you just don’t trust
- You have reasonably healthy gums and enough jawbone (or bone that can be built up)
- You want a permanent solution instead of continuing to patch up teeth one at a time
The best way to know for sure is a consultation with Dr. Matouk, including a 3D scan of your jaw. That’s what determines whether All-on-4®, All-on-6, or a different approach makes the most sense for your mouth specifically.
What the Process Looks Like
It starts with a conversation about what’s bothering you and what you want out of treatment, followed by detailed images of your jawbone, nerves, and sinuses to map out a precise plan. From there, Dr. Matouk designs your implant placement around your unique anatomy: how many implants, where, and what kind of provisional teeth you’ll leave with that same day.
For most patients, any remaining problematic teeth are removed, the implants are placed, and a temporary fixed set of teeth is attached the same day. Over the next several months, the implants fuse with your jawbone in a process called osseointegration, which is what gives the final restoration its strength and stability.
Once healing is complete, your temporary teeth are replaced with a custom set built to match your bite, your face, and how you want to look.
Why Choose Dr. Matouk for Full Arch Dental Restoration in Houston, TX
Full arch restoration leaves very little margin for error. That’s exactly why it deserves a provider with real precision behind it. Dr. Matouk graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She also graduated among the top students in her class at the UT School of Dentistry.
During dental school, her academic and clinical performance in oral and maxillofacial surgery was recognized with a Dental Student Award from the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
That’s the kind of precision this treatment demands. The margin for error with implant angle, spacing, and bite alignment is small. It’s what determines whether your new teeth feel natural for years or cause problems down the line. Just as important: we take the time to explain what’s happening at every step, so you’re never left guessing.
We know this is a significant investment, and we don’t think cost should be a mystery or a barrier. Our office accepts most major PPO insurance plans and will walk you through exactly what’s covered.
If you’re paying out of pocket or need to spread the cost out, we offer financing through Cherry and CareCredit. That way, you can move forward on a monthly payment that actually works for your budget.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is full arch restoration painful?
You’re numb or sedated during the procedure, so you shouldn’t feel it happening. Afterward, expect some soreness and swelling for a few days, similar to having teeth extracted. It’s manageable with the medication we prescribe and ice at home.
Will I leave with teeth the same day?
Yes. You’ll leave your surgery appointment with a full, fixed set of temporary teeth. Your final restoration comes later, once your jawbone has fully healed around the implants.
How many implants does full arch restoration require?
Typically four to six per arch, depending on your bone density and bite. Dr. Matouk determines the exact number and placement from your imaging.
How long does full arch restoration take, from start to final teeth?
The surgery and temporary teeth happen in a single visit. Healing typically takes a few months before we place your final restoration. Timing varies by patient, and we’ll walk you through your specific timeline.
How long does full arch restoration last?
Implants have a strong long-term track record and are built to be a lasting solution. Like any dental work, their longevity depends on your oral health and how well you care for them.
